Tate’s 1st Father’s Day (5.5mo)

Filed under: Tristan — hannayumi @ 9:46 am

In Australia we celebrate Father’s day on the first Sunday of September, different from Brazil where we celebrate on the second Sunday of August. So, PAI, jah que eu nao te liguei em Agosto, aqui vai um FELIZ DIA DOS PAIS para voce e vai em dobro, pois o Tristan estah te mandando um Feliz dia do VOVO tambem, rsrsrs!!

Anyway, we went to Tate’s parents house to celebrate this date with his dad. We had a delicious late hot lunch cooked by Pam and yummy cakes for desserts. Tristan gave Tate a bottle of men’s cologne and his favourite supersized chocolate. Undies were in the list but because Tate really needed them, we ended up giving him a week early. It’s not real Father’s day if they don’t get undies, socks or ties… hahahaha!!!

The 6 month mark is quickly approaching and when people say that at 6 months, babies get an attitude, I’m assuming Tristan is a bit advanced on that, cause he got the attitude now. He used to be the nicest, quiet, always happy, very plesant baby. Although, he’d wake up for feeds in the middle of the night, that was still alright, as there was just a bit of grunting so I’d quickly pick him up, feed him, back to the cot and done, he was asleep again. The great times seem to be over as for the past 3-4 days we haven’t had a proper night sleep. Tristan wakes up every hour after midnight and scream his head off. It’s disturbing!!! I’m going nuts! Even during the day he has been a bit grumpy and fighting his sleep. Does that mean he is teething? I can’t see anything coming out and as for the dribbling it’s been happening for the past 3 months so I can’t really use that as a cue. We’ll probably have to wait and see.

Tristan is enjoying his solid food. We are still trying a different vegetable at a time. So far, he’s been through pumpkin, zucchini, broccoli and carrot. The broccoli experience wasn’t very nice as he threw up everything on the second teaspoon. But the rest seems to be just fine. I mainly make all his food myself and freeze in small portions, so there is enough for 3-4 days. I bought some to try, but they are not that tasty and if you add them to the grocery bill at the end of the month, it’s a lot of money.

Since Tristan turned 5 months his growth and development is clearly noticeable. Like the way he grabs things, or turn his body towards them, he seems to understand the games I play with him, he is always following Tate and I with his eyes when he is with someone else, his motor coordination in grabbing his dummy and putting in his mouth is fascinating (he spots that dummy anywhere), if you are holding him and he wants something on the floor he almost dives for it, especially when you are holding him in the shower and we fill up his bucket, he just keeps looking down and moving his legs and arms so we know that he wants to go down, the rolling business is still work-in-progress, it’s half way done when I tease him with a toy, he likes to grab your face and suck your cheek when you say ‘Kisses’ or ‘Beijos’, and he is the cutest thing sitting upright playing with his toys. We are definitely very proud of our little man!

Two weeks ago we were invited to his friend’s 6 month birthday party (Leo, boy in red). He had a great time!!! Leo is half Brazilian half Australian like Tristan, and Lucas the other boy in the photos is half Uruguayan half Colombian. The three of them were really cute playing together. Tristan played so much that he just crashed in the lounge and wasn’t even up to sing Happy Birthday. It was hilarious!!

Here are some photos of the birthday party and Father’s day!!
