Where did the past 2 months go? It’s all a blur to me. Last time I checked he was still my newborn baby getting to the 3 month mark. Time is going so fast and he’s changed so much in such a short period of time.
As you saw the title, we started Tristan on solids. It’s been a bit over a week now. He started having rice cereal in the morning and loved it, a few days later I introduced stewed fruits, one day apple and after another couple of days pear and he enjoyed the fruits indeed. He usually finishes the bowl which contains about 1 1/2 tablespoon.
It’s been a couple of days now that he started eating mornings and late afternoons. Yesterday, Tate tried to give him rice cereal, that I mixed with water instead of breastmilk and the result was vomit all around the floor. I guess he is not ready for water yet, but we’ll keep trying. His main food is still breastmilk, at this stage I’m just introducing the different tastes and textures and once he is 6 months old, we’ll start with vegetables and other different ‘mixes’. So far, Tristan enjoys to experiment new tastes, it’s funny when you first put a spoon in his mouth and he tastes the food, making a disgusted face, but then he opens up his mouth again wanting more. It’s very cute!
My little buddah now is 9.5Kg, it’s almost getting to the point that I can’t carry him anymore for long peirods of time on his baby bjorn. The other day, I had to put him inside the supermarket trolley because I couldn’t handle carrying him anymore. It wasn’t the most comfortable and safe place for him, but it worked out alright for the quick time I had to do the groceries. He sits upright without support now, but you still have to keep an eye on him, as sometimes he falls to the side. Tate says, that he can only sit because he has too much fat around him to support him.
Tristan is a dummy addicted. As you can see, in most of his photos he has the dummy nearby. Do I feel bad about it? Not really, at this point, it calms him down, it keeps his thumb away from his mouth (I find thumb sucking worse than the dummy because you can throw the dummy out but not the thumb) and having a dummy, taught him to grab things. Now he knows how to pick up his dummy and put it in his mouth. Most of times it takes him a few attempts to find his mouth but eventually he gets it inside. Besides I don’t think it’s proven that if you suck on a dummy or thumb you will eventually need braces later in life. I never sucked in either or and I needed braces, so did Israel and Arthur. Rebeca was the only one who was totally addicted to her dummy and her teeth look the best of all of us. So I guess, for the time being the dummy is a good thing, how am I going to get rid of it? That’s a good question that I’ll have to research on.
There is one thing that we are still behind, and that’s rolling. Tristan still has problems with tummy-time. He knows how to express his dislike for this position and even learned how to cheat by just laying his head on top of his hands, besides it seems his arms are not that strong as he refuses to do push ups. Therefore, I don’t think rolling or crawling will happen any time soon. On the other hand, his legs are very strong. He loves to stand, in fact you can just hold him standing for half hour and he’ll stay there. According to baby development and growth research, it’s important that babies learn to crawl before they can walk for brain development reasons, what am I going to do if he feels like walking before? How can I force him to enjoy tummy-time?
I got some pictures of the past couple of weeks, hope you’ll enjoy it.

Photos 1 to 5 – In Woy Woy visiting with some friends. Pelicans were very close just waiting their feed. Tristan trying a 3-wheeler pram. Fancy!
Photos 6 to 8 – Bicentennial Park, with mums from our Mother’s group and their lovely babies. They are all around 4 to 5 months old.
Photo 9 – Tristan’s first time eating solids (rice cereal). Aunty Erana and uncle Mick that gave him the fancy highchair.
Photos 10 -11 – Tristan’s first time in the big Sydney Fruit Market. We got boxes of oranges, apples, mandarins and lots of vegies. While mum and dad were running around, Tristan was having a snooze.
Photos 12 – 16 – My chubby boy playing with his toys and having his bath. He’s grown out of the blue bucket so now he has his baths in the plastic storage box. He loves it!
I want to upload the movie that I made of him putting his dummy in his mouth, but my home internet is too slow to upload that, so we’ll have to wait a bit, till I can go to someone else’s house to have that done.
